This week is the one we have all been waiting for! Chapter 1187 dropped and Luffy vs Imu is happening after years of buildup since Imu was first revealed back in Chapter 906 in 2018, we are here. Let me break down everything that went down and what it means for where the arc is headed…

Chapter 1187 Is Titled "Ringleader" and It Sets Up Three Major Fights at Once

Titled "Ringleader," One Piece Chapter 1187 sets up three major fights of the arc. The cover page features Reiju protecting a duckling who looks like Sanji from the bullying of his father and brothers, all of whom resemble Judge and his sons. Oda sneaking in that Reiju and Sanji cover during one of the biggest battle chapters of the arc is exactly the kind of detail that rewards longtime readers who pay attention to the small things. After the punch to the face from Luffy, Imu counterattacks by shooting demonic forces at him and Prince Loki. The energy traps Loki under a huge block of ice, but when his hammer touches it, the ice melts. However, Imu has more up his sleeve. He creates a talking fire in the middle of Loki's chest and uses an energy sword called Stigma to stab the giant prince through the talking fire. Imu using an ability called Stigma, also called Demonic Sword, against Loki is a massive power reveal. The fact that Loki's hammer melts Imu's ice but cannot stop the Stigma attack tells you Oda is carefully calibrating how dangerous the final villain of the series is. GameRant

Luffy's Declaration at the End of the Chapter Is Perfect

Chapter 1187 ends with Luffy's declaration: "Stop calling me by another name!! My name is Luffy! I'm the man who'll become the Pirate King!!" After all the Joy Boy lore, after everything we learned on Egghead about the prophecy and the Void Century, Luffy cutting through all of it with the simplest possible statement of who he is and what he wants is such a perfectly Luffy thing to do. Oda has been building this moment for eight hundred chapters and he lands it with a line that could have come from chapter one. GameRant

The Entire Island of Elbaf Is Now a Full Scale Warzone

In classic Eiichiro Oda fashion, Elbaf now has multiple things happening at once. The entire island has turned into a warzone. At the center of it all is the main event, with Luffy and Loki putting everything on the line to hold back Imu. Meanwhile, the giants have their own nightmare to deal with as Rain God Zaza tries to carry out the plan to kidnap Elbaf's children. Vvip Times

While Luffy vs Imu is going to be central, there are other important elements at play. The most important one aside from Imu himself is the Rain God Zaza, ordered to kidnap the children of the Elbaf giants in order to make them subservient and join the ranks of the World Government as slave soldiers. The one who can stop it is none other than Sanji. We have been waiting for a proper Sanji moment in this arc and his showdown with Rain God Zaza looks like it is finally arriving. FandomWire

Sanji Conqueror's Haki Speculation Is Taking Over

Fans reacted strongly to Imu's display of power and the developments around the Straw Hat crew. Communities lit up with talks about Sanji's potential. Supporters cheered the buildup for Conqueror's Haki while others debated power balance with Zoro. The Sanji Conqueror's Haki debate has been running since Wano, but the way Oda is setting up his confrontation with Rain God Zaza feels different from previous teases. If there was ever a moment narratively for Sanji to unlock something new, stopping a literal deity from enslaving giant children is probably it. SuperHeroHype

No Break Next Week and Oda Is Going for Three Chapters in a Row!

One Piece is likely to continue for one more week before heading off on break. Eiichiro Oda is looking to deliver three chapters in a row after a very long time, which means Chapter 1188 is also coming on schedule. After the chaotic break schedule of June where Oda was flying to South Africa for Live Action Season 3, getting three straight chapters to close out this battle setup is exactly what the fandom needed. The momentum is back and Oda is clearly energized about where this arc is heading. FandomWire

What You Should Be Watching This Week

With Luffy, Loki, Zoro, Sanji, Brook, and the giants all caught up in different corners of the same battle, Chapter 1188 has plenty of ways to get completely out of hand. Watch for whether Sanji gets his proper spotlight moment against Rain God Zaza, since that fight has been building for several chapters now. Keep an eye on any Wit Studio remake news since February 2027 is getting closer and marketing for that project should start ramping up soon. And if you have not read chapters 1185 through 1187 back to back, do it now before 1188 drops next week, because the momentum reading them together is something else entirely. Vvip Times
